Western Front to protect lives on the roads












A new program aimed at improving road safety was held at the Western Provincial Governor’s Office.
The inaugural meeting of the program was headed by the Governor of the Western Province, Hanif Yusoof.
The committee, named “Saving Lives” will be chaired by L.A. Kalukapuarachchi, and will consist of key officials including the Governor’s Secretary and others.
Medical professionals, Police officials, and officials from the Provincial Road Passenger Transport Authority, among others, participated to contribute their expertise. The primary objective was to launch a new, proactive, and standardized program to improve road safety in the Western Province.
It will also prioritize improving driver behavior, enhancing training, promoting respect for the law, and increasing public awareness. Additionally, it aims to improve the safety of vehicles used for public transport, organize vehicle inspections, gradually phase out old and unfit vehicles, and elevate safety standards.
