The Western Province Governors Office has partnered with Clean Ocean Force (COF) a project which has completed three years of voluntary community service to the nation by way of cleaning beaches, waterways and mangroves on a weekly basis, to collect and dispose of plastics, litter and fishing nets left on the beaches in the Western Province. This project has empowered three hundred low income families from across the island with over 95% being women.

As the objective of this project is to make Sri Lanka a pollution and plastic free island, the Western Province Governor’s Task Force established with personnel of the Sri Lanka Police has assisted this project.
