GIRL Guide Movement is Important for Present Society – Dr. Hemakumara Nanayakkara
Everyone’s attention should be drawn towards some of the deeds done or get done by the children in the prevailing social system says the Governor of the Western Province while addressing the gathering as the Chief Guest of the anniversary ceremony of Western Provincial Girl Guide Association.
Hon. Governor further stated that the children in the present society experience a freedom which we never had in our childhood. This has resulted in reducing most valuable qualities such as discipline, self control. As a result of this, misdeeds in the society are increasing day by day. Thus we have to pay more attention to our children in making our Children well behaved and disciplined.
Hon. Governor said that Sri Lanka Girl Guide association is very important in this regard and it is our responsibility to mold well behaved and well disciplined girls.
The behavior, discipline, practice in social work activities and public work that a Girl Guide posses will be helpful in bringing forth a well behaved younger generation.
Therefore we should take necessary measures to improve and develop the Girl Guide Association in each school by giving priority to it. Dr. Hemakumara Nanayakkara said that he would give any help in this regard.
He requested to start a programme to plant a tree using carbonic fertilizers in the gardens of the Girl Guides as it would be good example to the society.
The Western Provincial commissioner of Sri Lanka Girl Guide Association Mrs. Shanika Gunarathna and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Girl Guide Association Mrs. Anoja Fernando addresses the gathering and Hon. Governor awarded the colors to the award winning girl guides.
