During his speech, the governor pointed out that the literacy rate of Sri Lanka is high in Asia and the students are performing well in various disciplines in the country. “ We are proud that the high standard of education in the country is due to the free education provided by the state,” the governor said, pointing out that therefore, students should  know their duties and  responsibilities of learning in the educational institutions offered by the government.

He told the students that as much as the students give priority to education, they should also  give preference to their respective religious education. “ Education is more useful to the  society provided there are religious values,” the governor added.
