587 graduates become teachers- President, Governor present letters of appointment
The awarding of Graduate Teaching Appointments in the Western Province was held under the patronage of President Maithripala Sirisena at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute auditorium on Monday Sept.2. A batch of 587 graduates who were among 15,000 candidates who sat the June 2019 teachers competitive examination received appointment letters from the President. Western Province Governor A. J, M. Teachers play a pivotal role in moulding the students with knowledge in the subject as well as a making them disciplined individuals rich in human qualities, President Maithripala Sirisena said.
“Since the future of a child is decided by the teacher, he or she should act with deep understanding and humanism in taking decisions regarding the children under their charge,” the President said. The President expressed these sentiments addressing the gathering at the Western Province Graduate Teacher appointments ceremony held at the SLFI Colombo on September 2.

President Sirisena said the government’s objective was to create an educated and learned society and strengthen social justice by creating equal opportunities for all.
The President also explaned the need for teachers to update their knowledge in keeping with the present technological age to stabilise the personality, trust and existence of the teacher’s role. The President also symbolically handed over appointment letters to graduate teachers during the ceremony.
Parliamentarian Lasantha Alagiyawanna and Thilanga Sumathipala, Western Provence Governor A.J.M. Muzammil, Isuru Devapriya, Gamini Thilaksiri and Ranjith Somawansa and Provincial Education Ministry Secretary S.P. Wijayabandu were also present on the occasion.
